The Front Steps Project book depicts hundreds of portraits portraying the emotions of the human experience:
LOVE, COURAGE, SACRIFICE, JOY, COMPASSION, HUMOR,
KINDNESS, PRIDE, PLAY, PERSEVERANCE, and ultimately: HOPE.

Discover quarantine stories of the pandemic through the lenses of photographers that ignited a massive effort of goodwill.

Curated from the grassroots social movement of the same name, this inspiring portrait series documents how people cope with living in isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Created in March 2020, The Front Steps Project™ began when friends Kristen Collins and Cara Soulia kicked off a local fundraiser to unite their neighbors through images of life in quarantine. Along with other local photographers, they took a few hours each day to go to neighborhoods in Needham, Massachusetts and photograph residents in front of their homes in exchange for donations to their local food pantry.

Through social media, their passion caught on and photographers across the globe replicated the project, ultimately raising over $3.35 million for hundreds of non-profit organizations and local businesses.

Six of my images were selected for inclusion in The Front Steps Project photo book: those featuring my wonderful friends Geraldine Burk, Courtney and Colby Gilpen of Faxon, Oklahoma, Val and Derek McMurtry and The Wild Ellis Crew — Ethan, Angie, John and Ben — all of Chattanooga, Oklahoma. The pandemic survival kit (in photo) was developed by my dear friends Billy and Crystal Lewis.

Through The Front Steps Project, my rural community raised more than $2,000 and provided boxes of food for local and area food banks. Cruising both small town and country roads, my family and I traveled more than 500 miles, making 60+ stops in Comanche County in southwest Oklahoma — capturing 215+ smiles, 23 doggos, 4 grumpy cats, 2 horses, 1 lamb, and a whole lot of fun.

The Front Steps Project commemorates a massive effort of good will through inspiring photographs and poignant stories of both heartache and triumph. The Front Steps Project demonstrates that even in the most challenging of circumstances, incredible kindness, love, courage, and hope exist to build, bind, and connect communities around the globe.

Proceeds from book sales will be donated to charitable organizations fighting the global effects of COVID-19.
